WWI Soldiers Monument Re-Dedication Ceremony
Keller and Darby Memorial Park
15 July 2018
Couldersport, PA

The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited by the Chapman Township to Stand a Flag Line In Honor for the Re-dedication Ceremony of their park, Keller & Darby Memorial Park and unveiling of the newly built monument in Honoring two WWI Clinton County Soldiers that lost their lives during the war.

15 July 1918, Private First-Class Ira Cranmer Keller, 24 years of age from North Bend, Pennsylvania Served with Company B, 2nd Platoon, 8th Machine Gun Battalion, 3rd Division “Rock of the Marne” of the American Expeditionary Forces. During the Second Battle of the Marne in France, PVT. Keller became the first Clinton County Soldier to be killed in World War 1. 18 July 1918 Corporal Beale Marshall Darby, at only 18 years old, Served with Company C, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry “Indian Head” Division of the American Expeditionary Forces. CPL Darby was the second hometown Soldier to be lost in the Great War, during the Aisne-Marne Offensive, and is listed at the Memorial at the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery in France.

In loving memory of these brave young men, the Keller and Darby Memorial Park was originally dedicated in 1926, forever commemorating their sacrifice for our freedom. The land remains to this day a public park, ball field, and playground.

A century later, we will celebrate their lives and remember their sacrifices, Chapman Township will Re-dedicate the Keller & Darby Memorial Park and unveil a brand-new Soldiers’ Monument. This Memorial is set within a place of Honor, Reflection, Remembrance, and Ceremony at the heart of Keller & Darby Memorial Park.
