The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited by the family Charles “Chuck” J. Protenic, U.S. Army veteran, to stand in silent honor for his service then escort for the interment.

Chuck proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Sergeant in the 893rd Tank Destroyer Battalion. Chuck’s unit was part of the second wave that landed on the beaches of Normandy where he was wounded and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Chuck returned to his Battalion where he participated in the Battle of the Bulge where his tank was hit by enemy fire and received a second Purple Heart.

Chuck received the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Hearts (2), Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon.

While recovering, Chuck dedicated his life to helping others in memory of lives given for others. Chuck was a longtime Member and Past Commander of the Baden American Legion, where he served on the Grave Committee for more than 50 years and the Needy Families Committee for 64 years.

Charles served our country and his community with honor, its now our turn to stand and honor him.
