US Army Joseph Charles Spain III joined the US Army right after graduating from South Hills High School in 1962. Joseph C. Spain III proudly and bravely served his country during the Vietnam War as a helicopter door gunner of the 101st Airborne Division, where he earned the National Defense Medal, and Air Medal. While still in the service Joseph C. Spain III traveled to Washington to become a firefighter. The Patriot Guard Riders have been asked by the family to Stand a Flag Line and escort the family from the Beinhauer Family Funeral Home to the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
