Mechanicsburg Rotary North and Carlisle Rotary Club formed Helping a Hero Central PA and through Foundation for Enhancing Communities have made a donation to www.HelpingaHero.org to build adapted homes for severely wounded warriors in Central PA. The PGR has been invited to participate in the groundbreaking ceremonies for Hollidaysburg hero, EM1 (NUC) Jeff Campbell, USN who developed MS as the result of his military service shortly after the 9-11 attack on the World Trade Center.
EM1 Campbell grew up in Hollidaysburg, PA where he played football, ran track, played in the orchestra, was active in his church, and was an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Slippery Rock University where he was an athletic trainer and Vice President of the Rock Emergency Medical Services.
Following the footsteps of other family members, EM1 Campbell enlisted in the Navy as a Nuclear Electrician. He served on the USS George Washington during the attack on the USS Cole, and also, while it was stationed in New York Harbor shortly after the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. It was during his time on the George Washington that he was exposed to unknown substances which eventually led to his service connected Multiple Sclerosis. Due to his MS, Jeff has lost the use of his legs and arms and spends time at home in his wheelchair.
We will stand a flag line during the groundbreaking ceremony for the new adapted home that will be built for EM1 Campbell.
