On Thursday July 11, 2024, we are honoring the service of US Air Force Captain Robert W. Grier Sr., Vietnam Veteran. Enlisted in 1957 Grier Sr. spent more than 12 years serving our country in the United States Air Force. Grier Sr. had some flying time during his service, most of this military career he served as a radar and missile supervisor. Captain Grier Sr. service was in Japan, South Korea, Germany, Maine, Texas. After his service to his country, he continued to actively serve his community with his family in the Elizabeth Dole Foundation, supporting military caregivers, spouses, parents, family and friends of wounded, ill, or injured veterans. Prior to his service in the US Air Force Captain Robert W. Grier Sr. was a linebacker and primarily a full back for the 1952-1956 University of Pittsburgh Panthers, becoming the first African American to play in the 1956 Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. Robert W. Grier Sr. is known for breaking the color barrier in college football. US Air Force Captain Robert W. Grier Sr. served our country and community proudly, it is now our time to stand for him.
