U.S. Marine Corps
LEO
6 October 2021
Pittsburgh, PA
The Patriot Guard Riders of Pennsylvania have been invited by the family of Albert “Al” John Stegena , a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a Law Enforcement Officer to stand in silent honor then escort to the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies for the interment.
Al enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1955 as an Airplane, and Jet Engine Mechanic and was honorably discharged in 1959, receiving the Good Conduct Medal.
Following time served in 1965, Al was hired by Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, beginning a 39-year career in a field in which he excelled and grew to love. Al’s dedication led him to assignments on federal, state, and local task forces apprehending violent fugitives and dangerous criminals. Al’s work with those different agencies forged many bonds and contacts with other Officers, Agents, and Deputies which served him well and assisted in his ability to be successful. Al spent the latter part of his career working in Drug Enforcement and his knowledge, drive, and determination was an inspiration to the younger Officers. Al was often the “Go To Guy” for those young Officers who needed advice and he enjoyed mentoring them. Al was highly respected by Supervisors, peers, Attorneys, Officers from other Law Enforcement Agencies and those in the court system.
Al served our country and his community with honor, it’s now our turn to stand in honor for him.
