Donald Mylin Born Obituary | Lancaster, PA | Charles F ...

The Patriot Guard Riders have been asked to honor the sacrifice of US Army, Korean War KIA, PFC Donald Mylin Born as he is returned home after over 70 years MIA.

Donald enlisted in the Army June 16th 1948, and trained at Fort Dix New Jersey. After basic training, PFC. Born was stationed in Japan as part of the first Cavalry in 1949. He was later assigned to the 31st Infantry Regiment, Seventh Division and was sent to Korea. Donald M. Born was last accounted for on July 28th 1950, and declared MIA on August 30th of the same year.

The Korean War was barely a month old when Private Born was lost.
By the end of July 1950, the conflict was going badly for the Republic of Korea and the U.S. Born and his 19th Regiment comrades were among the much-needed reinforcements. On July 28, most of the 2nd Battalion, 19th Regiment was deployed astride hills along the Chinju-Hadong Road, west of the Nam River. Born’s G Company was apart from the battalion’s main group. The morning of July 30, the North Koreans maneuvered around 2nd Battalion positions and cut off the road north out of Chinju. Later that day, G Company crossed the Nam River; the goal was to prevent the enemy from reaching Chinju between the road and the river. North Korean forces attacked G Company while the main body of North Korea’s 6th Division launched a full offensive against other American positions. During the early morning of July 31, G Company entered the new American defensive line at Chinju. The 2nd Battalion was then ordered to move northeast. As G Company was preparing to do that, the enemy attacked. By noon on July 31, the entire 19th Regiment had left Chinju. According to DPMO, during the course of the July 30-31 battle, the 19th Regiment lost nearly 600 men, including Private Born.

On June 21st, 2022, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency reported finding of a DNA match to PVT Born’s remains. For his sacrifice PFC Donald Mylin Born US Army received the Purple Heart for being KIA in the Korean War. The Republic of Korea War Service Medal which was presented to his half-sister who gave blood samples years ago to help Identify him should he ever be found.
PFC Donald Born’s Name is recorded on the Courts of the Missing at the Punchbowl. A rosette will be place to his name to indicate he has been accounted for.
Private First-Class, Donald M. Born made the ultimate sacrifice at only 19 years of age. He stood in defense of freedom. We will stand in recognition of the honor he deserves as he goes to his final rest. 72 years to the day that he was declared MIA. PFC Donald Mylin Born is a true patriot that gave his all for his country. Finally. It is our turn to stand in honor of his sacrifice.
Welcome home sir. Thank you for your sacrifice
