The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited by the family of John McIlwain, U.S. Army & LEO, to stand in silent honor for his service then escort to the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies for the interment.

John served in the U.S. Army from June of 1963, having served two tours in Vietnam with 14 years of service and was honorably discharged with the rank of Major, February of 1977.

Decorations include, the Army Commendation Medal, the Air Medal and the Bronze Star.

John continued his service as a Special Agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, & Explosives (ATF), he retired as a Resident Agent in Charge in 1995. Upon retirement, John passed along his real-world experience when he became a professor of Criminal Justice at Waynesburg University. He was an integral part of Fiat Lux and CSI camps at Waynesburg.

John was the President of Pittsburgh Masonic Police Pin Club, member of Blue Knights International, Blue Knights McMurray, PA 21, and a life member of VFW Post #764 in McMurray.

John served our country and community with honor, it’s now our turn to honor him.

This is a two day Mission, members can attend all of a mission or any part of the mission. PGR sets no time for a member to escort and or stand a mission. We Thank you for whatever time you give us and the families of our heroes appreciate your time.

Remember that the National Cemetery is a Federal Reservation and NO WEAPONS are permitted. Also grab your masks, they need to be worn while social distancing during the service and interment and once indoors.

Please be aware & alert of your surroundings. Also, before heading out please watch the weather, dress accordingly and bring your 3 X 5 handheld American flags.
