The family of US Navy WWII Veteran, Seaman First Class Robert E. McGovern has requested that we escort Robert to his final rest then stand in silent honor during his graveside service and committal on Saturday 17 August. Robert joined the Navy just before graduation and served aboard the USS Indiana Battleship which was among the first to bombard Japan’s homeland. Robert received the Asiatic Theater Service Medal, American Theater Service Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal. He was a life member of the American Legion post 49 in Towanda and part of their “Last Man Club” and was a life member of Canton Moose Lodge 429. We will escort Robert to his final rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Towanda where we will stand in silent honor of his service to this Nation. SN Robert E. McGovern is a patriot who served our country with honor and now it’s our turn to stand and honor him.
